Servos are an amazing tool to help bring projects to life. They're inexpensive, easy to find, can be controlled from any micro controller on the market, and are the 'go to' solution for the education and Maker communities. But how the heck do you use them with LEGO? In this mini article we're going to talk about a couple of options available to adapt standard servos, with a focus on the common 9G sized ones, to get them to work in a LEGO brick environment.
With the last installment of the Star Wars movies now in theaters we decided to create some fun classroom projects to go along with them. While noodling project ideas we were reminded of some fun lightsaber cards that MakerSpaces.com created back in 2015. While we like the idea we also knew we could improve and expand on the idea thank to the capabilities of our Maker Tape.
If you're interested in making any of these cards you can find them all in our Project Database as free templates with directions. You'll just need some 5mm clear LEDs, Maker Tape, batteries, and clear straws.

Recently we made a long video with us testing out our Maker Tape and Copper Foil Tape to see how much power they could handle. We had a request for a more detailed write up and we decided to go full 'Middle School Science Teacher Lab Write Up' on it. While we didn't make up any fun graphs we do go into some heavy detail about it.
We often get asked "how much power can your Maker Tape handle?" Thats a good question and we've never had a specific answer. Until now.
